The Montgomery Cliffs were the first band to play based upon a contact from their record label (he wrote me an email suggesting that I check them out). They reminded me of The Smithereens, but with an edge, and each song on their most recent album was a power-pop gem.
When the three-piece combo arrived, they rearranged the room to suit their sound – smooth, tight and LOUD! They made no apologies for the sound, and put on a show that would have blown the windows out had we not opened them. Due to the excellent weather, many of us enjoyed the music from the deck. We were delighted with their originals, and were treated to two genre-busting covers – Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and – believe it or not – “Over the Rainbow”. Truly geniuses at work.
