The Grip Weeds

First brought to my attention by a friend who knew of their song “Strange Bird”, I had the unique opportunity of hearing them live at a street fair in town. It turned out that they’re our neighbors (OK – they live several blocks away). Well, the family enjoyed the show enough to throw out the invitation for them to play.

They put on our first “no holds barred” full electric show. Full band, full drum kit, and very full sound. The volume (as it tends to do) increased throughout the show – especially during the second set. This set our expectations for shows to come.

Their sound – influenced by The Who and The Byrds, et al, filled the house to the delight of all of the audience. Of the bands who have visited, The Grip Weeds are my brother’s (our humble webmaster) favorite.

This show’s highlight was the arrival of Kurt with hand-held percussion instruments in tow for the kids to play (we’ve since assembled a bunch of our own for just such occasions), and the subsequent madness that ensued with the children playing along.
