Pre-IPO Warm-up
So we had one double bill under our belts, what made us think that we could handle more? Sheer ignorance! With the assistance of International Pop Overthrow godfather, David Bash, we arranged with nine performers to spend the afternoon in MyDiningRoom. Despite the potential for disaster, the show was one of the smoothest shows we ever put on. With perhaps one exception, all the bands started and ended on schedule – without prompting by management! Perhaps it was due to dumb luck, but I think it had more to do with the atmosphere and communal attitude.
Some quick highlights (a full
accounting could go on all day – we enjoyed it so much, we spent much of the
following two weeks at the IPO – seeing some of the acts again, as well as
plenty of others):
The return of faves The Marlowes;
a set by Rialto (who then went in the back room to learn the songs of The
General Store, and came back to play back-up on that set); and a loud volume
threat (we’ve heard that one before) by The Pills – that ended up putting the
baby to sleep.
An additional suggestion for those
of you who put on more traditional house concerts – the following performers might
suit you nicely doing a solo acoustic performance (with a poppy edge):
Steve Tagliere; John Faye; Cliff
Hillis; Tam Johnstone; Rialto.
